PLEASE HELP my ipod wont connect!?

ok i have a 32 gigabyte ipod touch and it always used to work but one time i put in a cd into the disk drive to put the music from the cd onto the ipod so once i finished that i plugged myt ipod in and took out the CD so now the ipod will still charge the battery and everything but whenever i open itunes it says this in another little box " this iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started" and whenever i go to devices on the left hand side it doesent show that my ipod is there even though my ipod is still charging! i have 25$ of itunes sitting here but i dont wanna use it until i fix my ipod or whatever... so can you give me like a step by step of how to make it work or if you have had the problem before and what you did or what. and dont say take it in to best buy coz i have like no monies right now..
