How do I stop myself from getting frustrated when I'm training my dog?

My dog is pretty stubborn, and whenever I ask him to do something I'm training or old like sit he tends to just look past me like I am nonexistant, or makes a game out of it. It really frustrates me, not so much when he makes a game because then I just play because I know he's done, but when he acts like I'm nonexistant it's just like grrrr. Should I just stick with the basics and not bother training him other skills, or is there some uber secret dog trainers have when it comes to being patient?
